The Floor Is Lava
When I first created the Electric Feather I had no idea that it would spark so much interest. For the first time I decided that I should try making further iterations…aka, creating a “guitar model”.
With The Floor Is Lava, I decided to experiment a bit further. The body plan is a little larger than previous versions, while the scale length is a little longer. While the back of the soundboard is still covered with layers of linen cloth and a shocking vibrant red-and-gold washi paper, the neck is uncovered natural cocobolo rosewood. The fiery red and black hues of this rare rosewood were the perfect counterpoint.
The soundboard is a piece of sitka spruce, spectacularly marked by bear-claw figuring, while the fretboard, bridge, and leg-rest are coal-black ebony. As with the original, there is a thin-film soundboard transducer in combination with an undersaddle pickup to provide a unique and very acoustic-sounding output.
