Electric Feather

Like its namesake, Electric Feather is effortlessly sleek, adaptable, and adjustable to meet the needs of moment.
All guitars must be able to move to make sound. This is the great advantage to wood as a material- that it can flex, yet retain memory of its shape, for decades upon end. I use this to my advantage with the structural heart of Electric Feather: a curved tensioning bar built into the vestigial “body” of the instrument. Like the truss rod in the neck, by tightening a nut one can change the shape of the body and apply a force to the soundboard countering the downward pressure from string tension.
It’s not simply a physics demonstration: The guitar must look and sound good too. The floating soundboard is a wafer-thin, fully-carved slice of reclaimed California Redwood, while the neck and body is hand-split Canadian white spruce. Both utilize my unique treatment to add stiffness: layers of flax linen and mulberry-fibre paper are impregnated with the highest grade of Japanese fish glue to create an incredibly strong, all-natural composite material. And of course, the choice of colours and patterns is spectacular!
The fretboard and trim pieces are of Brazilian tulipwood, a true Dalbergia with a lovely pink hue. Befitting its semi-acoustic status, there is an under-saddle transducer as well as a featherweight piezo membrane under the soundboard for unique and accurate sonic reproduction.
