Char

Fire is possibly humanity’s oldest tool. Perhaps we love it because it is so much like one of us- fascinating, frightening, inviting, dangerous, life-giving. We never know what patterns it will inflict upon our lives, our landscapes, or now-our guitars.

Being shaped by fire, Char is inevitable a singular, unique creation. What’s more, after carving the bevels and cutaways the tool marks were left intact, highlighting the complex relationship between order and randomness at the hands of the artisan.

The single-coil neck pickup was custom-made by JD Guitarworks. For the bridge pickup, a Graphtech Ghost system is embedded in the saddles of the ABM individual bridges. This active system can be blended or switched into the mix just like a regular magnetic pickup, but with a unique electro-acoustic character.

The solid body is made of perfect vertical-grain douglas-fir, and thoroughly stabilized and sealed after charring- you won’t get black marks on your arms, I promise. The neck is black cherry while the fretboard and other parts are of exotic kabo rosewood.

Char is fitted with stainless steel frets on the multiscale fretboard, features a dual-action truss rod and locking Hipshot tuners, and includes a heavy-duty Nanuk case and matching display stand.
