Fiel
Since I’ve made several minimalist, headless guitars, I am often asked to make a travel guitar. I’ve resisted, since they always involve some unacceptable compromises to my eyes. But this time I accepted the challenge, and finally came up with a solution that I’m proud of.
“Fiel” is the result. It’s still just a couple of pieces of wood, but the rear section rotates 360 degrees, and locks in place with a thumbscrew. Detents every 15 degrees allow optimum positioning without the chance of slipping. Much more comfortable to play than a simple stick, this allows the guitar to balance comfortably with a strap, on the right knee, or the left, in an upright ergonomic posture, or almost anything else: get creative!
The flame maple body with ebony accents is a classy and classic wood combination. The pickup is a lace Alumitone humbucker, light and compact but with a powerful output. The bridge and tuners are my own “Wrap-lock” design, 3d-printed in stainless steel and aluminum.
